Graphite plate-type

A plate-type heat exchanger is a device where heat is transferred from a hot heat-conducting medium to cold (heated) medium via graphite plates which are pasted together into a bundle. Hot and cold layers intersperse with each other. These devices are used as heaters, coolers, boilers and condensers. The apparatus are arranged vertically or horizontally. During the heat exchange process liquids are conveyed towards each other (in counter flow). There is a graphite ring located where they can overflow which eliminates mixing of the liquids. Such heat exchanger design ensures an effective arrangement of the heat exchanging surface and, therefore, small dimensions of the apparatus itself. Plate-type heat exchangers have a range of advantages compared to other types of heat exchangers. One of the key advantages is compactability.

Plate-type heat exchangers occupy space which is 5-10 times smaller. Generally, this type of a heat exchanger has a high coefficient of thermal transmission as well as low heat and pressure losses. An important feature of plate-type heat exchangers is low installation, insulation and repair work costs. A plate-type heat exchanger cannot be dismantled. However, due to its design features the considered service life of such apparatus is twice as long as that of a block-type apparatus. Due to the heat exchanger’s simplicity installation can be carried out directly on the floor or a supporting structure.

Key features:

-High heat transfer when the dimensions are small;

-Thermal effectiveness is maintained at low flow rates;

-Almost no maintenance is required and a long service life when operational procedures are followed;

-High degree of turbulence and a low tendency to contamination of inner walls.

Acceptable working temperature:

for the liquid – 0.8 MPа (8 kgf/cm);

for gases – 0.06 MPа (0.6 kgf/cm).
